The City of Busselton in Western Australia has adopted a Coastal Adaptation Planning Report to manage and prevent coastal erosion and address a projected sea level rise of one metre over the next 100 years.

Planning Director Paul Needham told ABC radio the city has a pragmatic approach to climate change. “It’s clearly a significant issue for the City of Busselton,” he said. “If we don’t do anything to protect the coast and those projections come about, we could see the coast erode up to about 200 metres inland in the softest, most vulnerable parts of the coast.”

The City is to seek government funding to continue coastal erosion modelling and to put structures in place where needed
